Engagement Party?

Hiya,

Just wondered if anyone had any cool ideas for a party?? Basically my boyfriend and I are getting engaged soon and have a very diverse group of friends who have never met before. His are slightly from the dark side (into metal, rock, dress is black etc), whereas some of my mates are really posh. I can see this not mixing well!!

I was thinking of like a garden party type thing but has anyone got any cool themes (I was loving the idea of a champayne and cake party but I have a feeling the rockers will take the mickey!). Anyone got any ideas??? and also know of any ice breakers that are cool to get the party started. Young and old will be coming.

Engagement Party?
People usually get along when they are doing things in group with teams. Make a theme Vagas: Have a texas hold'em table, Poker table, black jake table, a roulette table. Have your friend's (the ones that will probably be in your bridal party) as the pit bosses. Supply chocolate chips to every guest that comes as your favor. If they run out of chips, they have to "buy" more chips by singing a Karaoke song. Make the Karaoke stage near a bar area... make it like a little lounge.

It's a cute idea to get everyone interacting. Being a rocker myself, I personally have no problems with posh parties but I know my friends would stick out like a sore thumb at them.... not because they would misbehave, but because of the way we look! LOL!
Reply:Have a party if you can where the two of you met. Base it around that. Serve beer and wine and hordevers(sp?).
Reply:Have the party at a resturant that way his friends will behave better in a high-end style resturant and invite lots of family especially parents and grand-parents. Older greneration can make people very restpectful very quickly.
Reply:make it simple so that everyone can enjoy have a nice big bar b que so that no one feels out of place
Reply:I would do a big tropical themed outdoor barbeque. That way, the rockers are happy - good meat, good food, music, etc. And the posh girls are happy - good theme, nice food, and they can sit primly on the deck and watch everyone! :)
Reply:hmm..that's a tough one..because me and my bf is also planning for an engagement party and we're in the very same situation and backgrounds...but slightly different because i'm the one from the rock/metal world, and he was a former fashion and hair model..haha..

anyway, when i asked from an expert's opinion, he suggested that i should make a reservation in a first class bar(a bar where there's a live band and a dance floor). im sure that your posh friends will kinda like it too..
Reply:Try a casino night.
Reply:We decided to have our engagement party labor day weekend. To mix the engagement party with a bbq was a good idea for us to have the family and friends come together. We don't have anything planned other than for everyone to meet. When my coordinator gets there maybe she will have something for them to do for us but thats it for us just a nice bbq.
