Political Party Scenario, how likely do you see this happening?

Democrats and Republicans have been the major parties for a very long time. I see the Democratic party going very far left. If some of you think that all the Republican candidates dropped out simultaneously pretty much because they didn't have a chance, I think you're missing the fact that it was strategy to get a Republican in office, ie strong leadership from the Republican party.

Democrats boast that they represent minorities, immigrants, etc. They've more or less given the nomination to an unknown and are quickly learning who he really is and are in a lengthy somewhat hostile battle for a nominee. Lieberman, face with radical Democrats as constituents, has already jumped ship and won the nomination with Independents.

How likely do you think it is that the Democratic party loses strength in the coming years and the Independents gain more support from formerly Democratic moderates?

Political Party Scenario, how likely do you see this happening?
This is what I've been saying for years. Unless the Democrats come more mainstream they will never see an office again except maybe in california. Or where the big cities rule the roost.
Reply:Not likely. Unless we get runoff elections or proportional representation, people won't vote for independents because they don't want to split the vote. The Democratic party might move more to the center if they start losing lots of elections to the Republicans. Although I'm not sure even that is happening, because as the Democratic party moves to the left, their voters move with them.
Reply:Depending upon who the "independent" might be, I'd probably vote for him/her/black/white/Hispanic, etc. this time around. Provided, of course, they were sane, logical, and didn't go left of what we now have (although that would not qualify under my criteria).
Reply:Not likely at all. Progressive is the new mainstream. It would be highly unlikely that the Democratic party is the one to lose to independents.
Reply:Yes, it's possible.
Reply:It would be *so* much better for America if the Republican Party would put up a Presidential nominee even only *half* as *great* as the greatest President of the Nineteenth Century, Abraham Lincoln, or the greatest President of the Twentieth Century, Ronald W. Reagan! Come on, people, there has to be a conservative person of genuine integrity out there who would make the extreme sacrifice to serve and become a great President! Even if neither Rush Limbaugh nor Condi Rice will run and since Clarence Thomas is doing more good by staying in the Supreme Court!

Dear "micha", You may think the use by "Hannity is a Moron" of the term, "Progressive" is "cute"; but remember, *that* is just the Twenty-First Century code word for Socialist/Communist!
