Birthday Party Ideas for 2 Year Old, party in October?

Last year we did a family only party, due to money, time, and the fact that he has no idea it is his birthday and what it means. Anyway, because we didn't do anything last year our church threw him a last minute party after I told them I wasn't doing a big party for him. It was rather embarrassing, and I want to avoid that again this year. I need ideas on what to do. He is the youngest (besides his 6 mo. old brother) and the other kids will range in age up to 6. I have decided it will be at my house to save on money, and I'll make pizza and nachos, but I don't know what to do with kids that are that varied in age. I need ideas for inside and outside due to not knowing what the weather will be like in mid-October. Also, my house isn't very large, and there will be 10 kids plus all their parents... So I need activities that will not involve being extremely active while inside, there is just no way to play a lot of games inside. Oh, I don't want any specific theme please.

Kids that age are very easily entertained, I woudn't worry. My sons 2 year party was at our house in Feb. and there were kids up to 6 years old there also. We bought pizzas, put on the toddler tunes and let them dance, made cupcakes and let them put their own sprinkles on them, and got a pull-string pinata (great idea for kids that age, even the 6 year olds loved it). Don't make the mistake of overinviting and then worrying there will be too many people in your house, that's my only advice. I got so worried about it that I ended up breaking it up and having a "family" party on Saturday and "friends %26amp; daycare friends" party on Sunday... bad idea and very stressful.
Reply:Don't feel pressured because your church "outdid" you last year - personally I think you did the right thing keeping it simple.

Even at two, he doesn't need a big production. He will absolutely go bonkers for decorations, balloons, cake %26amp; presents. I think it looks great (and is far cheaper) to get plain bright tablecloths and just pick themed plates and matching plain balloons.

For my son's 2nd birthday (also in October), we had one game (pin the tail on the donkey), I set out play-doh (huge hit!) and we had a small pinata outside. Temporary tattoos are fun, too. For indoors, you can set up an art station with butcher paper and all kinds of crayons, stickers, etc - you can include paint %26amp; glitter if you have a place that can get messy.

Outdoors, bubbles and balls to throw around %26amp; kick will keep them happy. Keep the party short, so the guest of honor won't be overwhelmed. Send them home with little goodie bags (a couple stickers, tattoo, maybe a little car) and they'll have a great time.

Just a note: I spent a lot of time making food for the adults at my son's party and ordered pizza as a special request from my son. The pizza was the biggest hit!
Reply:go on a hay ride
Reply:Those outdoor moonwalks are a great idea for outdoors. Kids help get all their energy out that way. You could also try have putting the sprinklers on and have the kids wear their swimsuits and run through it
Reply:pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, balloon popping, bobbing for apples (great for fall), bingo
Reply:try a halloween theme unless the kid is scared
