Hey guys, so I know this is probably a dumb question, but I'm wondering what the difference is between a first party and third party developer for a video game console? I know that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have both, but what is the difference between the two? Do some developers only develop for certain consoles? I hear about first and third party developers all the time but never know exactly what that means. Any examples?
First Party vs. Third Party?
third party means that someone (like Sony, Microsoft, etc.) is paying another company to produce/manufacture it.
Reply:1st party is made by the company itself(Nintendo, Microsoft),
2nd party is made by a developer owned by the company(Game Freak, Hal Labs)
3rd party is made by a seperate developer.
Reply:first party developers are developers that only make games for one console.third party developers make games for than one console.
